What Does An Industrial Heat Pack Consist Of?

Most industries require specialised heating solutions for at least one aspect of their operations. For instance, process air heaters provide the heat necessary for some HVAC applications and in manufacturing, for all sorts of products, including food, beverages, medication, plastic, and metal. It is used in curing, drying, cleaning, sterilising, annealing, sealing, moulding, and more.

The core components of Secomak heat packs include a heater, blower, and control box. We have multiple industrial heat pack options, providing tailored heat solutions for specific needs. Depending on the setup, the connected components deliver controlled heat exactly where it’s needed at the push of a button.

Secomak is a leading provider of heat packs for industrial applications – and our longevity in this arena proves we know what we’re doing. For a century, we have tailored successful solutions for various manufacturers across the globe, improving production, quality, and efficiency. Our standard heat pack offering includes 9kW, 18kW, and 36kW variants.

Additionally, each heat pack heater variant is compatible with any one of our fans. This allows us to offer each client a specialised solution for their specific application and environment.

The Role and Choices in Secomak Blowers

It’s one thing to create heat using an industrial hot air heater. Still, delivering that heat precisely without losing too much heat or transferring it to the wrong surface matter is another matter. However, Secomak’s blower range successfully negates these hindrances and inefficiencies through superior design and quality materials.

Our blowers can also be configured to recirculate and reuse hot air where necessary. Secomak achieves this with our unique stepped-off blower design which distances the motor from the fan and impellor with a slightly longer motor shaft. This allows the motor to draw in cool air and operate optimally despite the high temperature environment.

Recirculating hot air has many benefits including: shortened heat-up time, the option to achieve higher temperatures, reduction of energy consumption by up to 80%, and minimised wear and tear on the components.

Our range of industrial heater blowers offers a variety of heat pack configurations, including a blower air knife solution perfect for high-temperature applications. Other fans and blowers in our range include the following:

  • High-velocity industrial fans: Secomak’s belt-driven blowers are built for consistent and reliable performance. They can increase pressure by up to 186 mbar and 1,850 cu.m/hr.
  • Direct drive industrial fans: These compact and powerful blowers have no belts, so their maintenance is minimal. Secomak’s direct drive fans can be coupled with a heater, depending on the application. They can increase the pressure to 24 mbar and 2,200 cu.m/hr.
  • Tangential fans: These popular industrial fans can operate in a broad temperature range. While they can form part of a heat pack, these fans would most likely need to be mounted. Secomak offers a unique selection of tangential fans. For instance, the impellor blade lengths can be up to 12 inches (30.48 cm), while the diameter can range from 1 inch (2.54cm) to 40 inches (101.6cm).

Secomak Heaters: Versatility for Different Applications

Coupled with a blower, industrial process air heaters are essential in maintaining ideal temperature ranges for different applications. However, since applications differ vastly, a one-size-fits-all approach to industrial heating isn’t suitable. So, it would be best to have an industrial process air heater specialist like Secomak.

Secomak started providing industrial heating solutions in the 1930s. We now offer a range of industrial heaters up to 36kW.

Our heaters are designed to recirculate hot air, should that be a requirement. Recirculating hot air allows for greater energy efficiency and exceeding 300°C air temperatures. The maximum airflow output for our heaters is 2,378 m3/hr. Our heaters also achieve maximum heat transfer owing to the built-in insulated jackets, which also keep the heaters’ surface temperatures cooler.

Control Systems: Ensuring Precision and Safety

Secomak’s heat packs include a control box for the heater and blower functions. The control box is essential for ensuring precision heating, plus it has built-in safety features to lower risks should there be an emergency. Below are some of the features of the heat pack control system:

Thermocouple temperature sensor: The built-in detector is mounted on the heater outlet and safeguards the system against overheating by shutting down the Heat Pack if necessary. It also monitors system performance in real time, allowing the user to collect and analyse data.

Programmable temperature controller: This allows users to set the operating temperatures (inlet and exhaust).

Solid state relay heater control: This thermostat helps to maintain precise and consistent PID temperature control to <±1%. The PID controls the heater as and when required, reducing unnecessary energy consumption.

Visual Monitoring and Alarms: Digital Displays and Temperature Alarms

Secomak’s heat pack controller has additional features to protect and monitor the heat pack’s operation and promote human safety. For instance, the temperature controller is pre-programmed or tuned to achieve the desired set point.

The controller’s display is digital, and it offers a real-time temperature readout from the sensor. Such data is beneficial not only for real-time monitoring but also for analytical and comparative purposes.

The built-in temperature alarms offer enhanced safety for the users and the equipment while offering the opportunity to quickly intervene if something is amiss. The warnings are programmable, meaning the user can set the minimum and maximum temperatures. Then, when the operating temperatures move out of the desired range, the alarms will activate.

Moreover, the external alarm signals are visual and auditory, increasing the chances of being noticed sooner. This is essential in applications requiring personal protective equipment such as goggles, ear muffs, or earplugs and for employees with a hearing impediment.

Versatility in Mounting: From Walls to Mobile Trolleys

Since working spaces have different configurations and protocols, it’s helpful to have a heat pack that offers setup versatility. For instance, some applications require the controller to be permanently affixed to a base frame, on a wall, or in a safety cage. In contrast, other setups require a more portable heat pack solution.

Secomak can cater to all these requirements, whether a permanent or portable setup. We offer a convenient mobile trolley solution for the portable heat pack option. All the components (heater, blower, and controller) are mounted into a painted steel IP54 lockable enclosure fitted with an isolator. Additionally, the trolley has lockable casters and a handle for easy transportation.
